The Mind Is A Battlefield
Happy Monday! We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 10:5 ~
Waking up and preparing to face one’s day can become all consuming for us sometimes. Especially when the start of our day may be littered with unacknowledged and inconclusive feelings of whatever transpired the day before and the day before that. Be it positive and enjoyable or negative and unsettling, the memories of the latter always seem to foreshadow and shape the days to come. Our minds are powerful things. It can literally determine the level of victory, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (fruits of the spirit) in our lives at any given moment. What we meditate on determines our reality. What we conclude as reality is not always THE reality.
2 Corinthians 10:5 teaches us that we are to destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. God created us to be thinking beings. He understands the intricacies of our mind and knew it would most times be the center of the challenges we face in this life.
What we dwell on shapes our next moments. When it feels like you will slip into that place of no return, where the negative thoughts and feelings are knocking at the doors of your mind and heart turn your eyes, mind, and heart toward heaven.
Something powerful transpires when we switch our focus from our day to day, negative thoughts, and feelings assigned to dictate the atmosphere around us, to fellowshipping with the Father. In his presence things change if we will allow him to show us life through his eyes. He will eliminate all the “stuff” our human condition feels is necessary to hold on to and give us what is needed.
We can change the atmosphere of our day, week, year with the purpose of our focus. What we choose to see will determine our reality.
Exodus 15:2 ESV
The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.
Zephaniah 3:17 ESV
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Blessings,
