Ah, so much has happened over the past few years and 2022 is a new year. How many of us feel like we are bursting at the seams and ready to take on the world! We are ready for change NOW!! But are we really ready for the change we desire? Have we waited, prepared, been out of the “game” long enough to become whole, have a sound mind, and be alert? Have we allowed ourselves the grace to become healthy mentally, physically, and spiritually? Do we even know what that will take? Many of us think we have it all figured out and would gleefully respond “Yes! Yes I have done the necessary work!” when truthfully we hide behind the mask of “normality”. We disregard our apparent brokenness and sit on the bench begging to be put into a game that if hit one good time, would totally take us out. Why do we pretend?

Our culture teaches us to bury our emotions, hurts, struggles, etc., and eventually, we will get over them. God however does not ask this of us. Scripture after scripture maps out how to respond to what we will encounter and experience. He talks about fear, anxiety, sorrow, and more.

I think miss the mark when our expectations are not at all what God says He expects. God obviously knew that we would encounter things that would bring things we can not conquer on our own. This is the reason He gave us a road map to help us through those times. Going through the process in order to heal is necessary, and He gives us a blueprint by which to guide us through. He NEVER said we wouldn’t experience these things. If that was the case they would have never been mentioned, to begin with.

We should rethink what WE expect.

Throwing scriptures and what worked for you during your process may not be how another person becomes whole, what worked for someone else may not work for you on your journey to wholeness. Instead of imposing our “12 steps to” process on others make sure you are at a place where if you were put in the game you are prepared for the hits…..…..listen, pray, have grace, encourage, be knowledgeable of who God is, and what He says.

We should embrace and think about what GOD expects.

Allow others to go through the process in order to get to the wholeness they need.

When the game starts, let’s get well and be a part of the winning team! The teams that win are the ones who are prepared to endure the entirety of the game. Let’s set ourselves and others up to WIN!
