I Think I Can

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

~ Matthew 25:40 NIV ~

We've all heard the story about a train who set out to deliver cargo to some destination. In the process it breaks down right before it is to cross a mountain and difficult terrain. While it is in distress, it proceeds to ask various engines to help push it over a mountain so it could be on its way.

Every engine asked was too busy, too important, or just too tired, except for one.

The little engine who could but didn't know it.

This engine displayed no outward signs of having the ability to push anything, let alone an entire train filled with cargo. It was not powerful, did not look like the others in the least, and was not even designed for such a task.

BUT it was willing.

We all know the ending. The engine repeats "I think I can" and finds out it actually could successfully push the broken train over the difficult terrain to safety.

In the end that little engine was able to accomplish what was needed. It only took courage and the faith to step up.

There are so many things happening in the world today that can take our focus off what really should matter to us as much as it mattered to Jesus. What mattered to Jesus most? Broken people.

We become so easily caught up in our own agendas that we often forget what our real purpose on earth is.

We are called to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, invite in the stranger, take care of the sick, and visit the those held captive. This is what Jesus requires of us.

So many of us are distracted and like the engines who were too busy, we miss the very opportunities God puts in our paths to produce growth in us.

One of my favorite quotes is... God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

There is strength and power that comes when we take a step of faith to
selflessly follow God's commands even in our inadequacies.

Let us purpose today to have our I think I can become I know I can so our obedience can manifest in us the very growth we didn't believe was possible.

Blessings,

Rashena
