MAKE ROOM
There is a human desire to find fulfillment in SOMETHING throughout history.
Time and time again, when a people felt like they did not benefit from something as they thought they should, they turned to something else that led to their demise. The children of Israel after their release from captivity and as they wandered in the desert, the judges of Israel asking Samuel to give them a king, are a couple of places we see this play out in the bible. The Israelites marveled and praised God for their freedom only to forget God's deliverance altogether and began worshipping a golden calf…or Samuel anointing Saul as king…
Often, destruction waits with open arms at the end of these stories.
You see, destruction never looks like destruction to us. It can even sometimes look like the will of God, but turns out to truly only be a smokescreen to hide something else.
It’s like that scene in cartoons or movies when there is a trap being laid. The scene involves train tracks leading up to a tunnel that goes through a mountain or hill of some sort. There is usually some sort of chase that happens between the intended target and the mastermind behind the trap with the goal of getting the intended into a place of vulnerability and dependency.
At the far end of the tunnel, there seems to be a light…a sure way out..but it's really a trap. In the movie or cartoon the individual the trap is intended for, sees the tunnel and the light…..breathes a sigh of relief and runs toward what they think is safety.
As they get closer they become less concerned about their enemy.
And if discernment doesn't kick in before, their relief turns to utter shock and defeat as they barrel toward what they thought to be safety only to burst through a piece of paper…a screen, into a dark cage.
What they did not know or see was that what they thought would produce freedom actually led straight to what would be their downfall. The tunnel scene was merely a painting designed to deceive and lead to demise.
~ Proverbs 14:12-16 NIV ~
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief. The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways, and the good rewarded for theirs. The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps. The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.
It goes on to say in Proverbs 14 verse 27…
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life…Fear of God means to reverence, respect that.He is “I am"..not to be afraid. But to trust and obey His leading and guidance….trusting Him brings life and keeps us from complete and utter destruction.
I love that He gives us a way out of the traps and snares of hell, death, and the grave. He desires for us to walk in His freedom.
I want to encourage you to make the conscious choice to choose Him over everything. He is the only one who can keep us from ourselves. Trust Him, make time for Him, and watch Him work in you.
This song has ministered to my heart this week and I hope ministers to you as well. Let's purpose to make room for Him.
